Previously we recorded behaviour and accidents centrally on paper records and in books. This inevitably meant a delay in staff recording things. The delay in recording information sometimes led to incomplete or inaccurate accounts. There was also the difficulty in sharing and accessing the information quickly. For example when a parent phoned, I had to go off looking for the information I needed.

We have a number of custom logs on the system including Incident/behaviour logs, accident record and parent contact information. We also have a confidential form for whistleblowing or recording sensitive, (non safeguarding) issues.

The key benefits we get from the system are the ability to share information more easily and better and deeper analysis of our data. Our record keeping is more thorough and the ability to attach files to records is very useful. IRIS Adapt acts as a single ‘one stop shop’ for all issues that may need following up or may need further action. It provides a thorough evidence base in the key areas of accidents, parent contact and behaviour.

It is now much quicker and easier to record, interrogate and share information within the school. I can now readily access information and identify trends and any emerging issues. This helps me to prioritise resources and deploy staff effectively. I am also able to report more frequently to Governors. Any teacher can now call up the full records of a child for discussion with parents.

The biggest difference IRIS Adapt has made is with the behaviour records. When speaking to parents on the phone, I can immediately call up their child’s records rather than say ‘I’ll have to go away and investigate’. In addition, I can quickly review records on a weekly basis to spot emerging patterns or trends. This data informs our discussions at staff meetings. The time taken for producing detailed reports for Governors has also been cut drastically. In addition the business manager used to take an entire half day out of school to analyse behaviour logs for reporting to Governors; now it is done in 30 minutes!

We really like the very flexible approach to IRIS by the Adaptsoft team, who are always there to help and listen and see if they can find a solution.
